José Senent Primary School is engaged in a process of coeducational development, physical transformation and ecological awarenessthat has represented a starting point for various innovations in the pedagogical field along with a participatory process involving the entire educational community in the transformation and re-wilding of its schoolyard.
Fent Estudi assisted the school with the analysis and diagnosis of its pre-existing spaces. Teachers, families and pupils of all ages participated in carrying out a comprehensive evaluation of the schoolyard, using a variety of methodologies. This analysis considered factors such the characteristics of different parts of the schoolyard, the materials, textures and vegetation found in them, and the relationships that develop in them, including what games are played, who plays them and how they are played.
Following this initial phase, the criteria and objectives that served as the basis for drawing up the plan of action were agreed upon. The proposal seeks to turn José Senent Primary School’s schoolyard into a place of learning, coeducation and coexistence which features diverse environments with a balanced distribution of the different play areas. The proposed transformation gives centre stage to nature, helping us turn the schoolyard into a Climate Refuge for Massarrojos.
